 Costuming Options

After much discussion and brainstorming about this project, I was most excited about the costuming options for our characters. 

As a quick recap, our story occurs on the last day of school before summer break. Therefore the weather is very warm and sunny. We wanted to make this contrast between the main character Maddie and the other teenagers. Since there is a lot of heat and humidity in the weather, Maddie wears baggy clothes and very dark colors like black and gray. We wanted to show the contrast by showing the difference between Maddie and the other students since they wear intense vibrant and colorful clothes. Therefore, the clothes’ styles are a direct representation of the characters. 

Maddie 

Based on our research and personal experience and taste. Although her clothes are not part of her priorities, she considers comfort a key factor when it comes to dressing. These are some of the outfit ideas we have thought about. We wanted to keep it realistic and relatable for high school students.

Teenagers and Students

The rest of the students apart from Maddie,  consider the aesthetic and the exterior opinions mostly into account when it comes to their outfits. Taking into account the atmospherical weather, they used to wear more revealing pieces of clothing, with vibrant colors. We wanted these characters to represent unrealistic standards that many teenagers use to compare themselves to.  The different colors used represent their happiness and enjoyment of life.

Maddie's Mom

At the final part of our film opening, Maddie's mom tries to animate her daughter, trying to spend quality time with her and hopefully get a smile on her face. She is a stereotypical mom, yet she is very loving for her children and though she doesn't have much time to spend with her, she wants to make sure that her life has meaning and wants her to feel supported. Her clothes are pretty casual and intermediate, not super colorful, and not colorless.
